Introducing Nanotechnology in the Pre-College Classroom

The center has worked with teachers, administrators, and researchers since 2001 on the development of an innovative module that introduces nanotechnology in the pre-college classroom.

The module is being designed to supplement existing science and math curricula, and introduce nanoscale science through unique design challenges and a collaborative team approach.

Field testing has demonstrated that the module helps students develop inquiry skills, and learn how to conduct a quantitative, hands-on laboratory investigation. Students are also challenged to investigate the societal impact of science and technology.

Final gamma field testing of the module begins in classrooms around the Chicago area in 2006. Once this is complete, the teacher and student editions of the module handbook will undergo final editing and the module will be ready for dissemination.

In this short movie Module Program Director, Hilary Godwin talks about and demonstrates a section of the module.
